Darryl Fenner Retirement

RRI West Family,

Please join me in extending best wishes to Darryl Fenner, who will be retiring from RRI West at the end of August. Darryl has been an esteemed member of the brand for 20 years and will be greatly missed by everyone.

In 1997, Darryl started with the Brand as a District Vice President over Region 4. A few years later, during Red Roof’s ownership by Accor hotels, another Accor portfolio required his operational expertise, and he spent 3 years as Regional Vice President for Motel 6. He returned to the Red Roof brand in 2004, again, as Regional Vice President over Region 4 (fun fact: he’s always had Region 4 since day 1!) Over the past 2 decades, Darryl has overseen Red Roof properties all over the United States; being one of the few RVPOs with such an expansive territory. Never one for fanfare, Darryl’s humble management style is one that has endeared him to not only his team but throughout his professional relationships. Throughout his tenure with the Brand, Darryl has proven to be an experienced leader, providing guidance and mentorship, a number of which are still in high level positions with the Brand. As retirement often begets reflection on one’s career journey, Darryl is quick to say “This has been my most favorite job.”

With his announcement of retirement, his oldest child, a successful actor living in Chicago and the recent departure of his youngest child out of the home, Darryl will have plenty of time (and no distractions) planning an amazing celebration for his wife Ardella as they celebrate their 39th wedding anniversary in the coming weeks.

Darryl’s contributions over the decades are what has made the Brand, and most recently, RRI West, the success that it is today. We are forever grateful for his commitment and dedication and we wish him the best as he embarks on the next chapter.

NEWLY APPOINTED REGIONAL VICE PRESIDENT/REVENUE STRATEGIST

The RRI West Leadership team is pleased to announce the appointment of Julie DaWalt, Regional Vice President of Operations/Revenue Strategist, effective August 2, 2021. Many you may know Julie from her many years with the Brand, most recently as a Franchise Operations Director. Julie’s Red Roof journey started back in 1988 as a Housekeeper in Madison, WI. She has worked every position at the hotel and was eventually promoted to the General Manager in Madison. She has continued to grow her career, taking on positions of District Coach, Revenue Manager, Director of Revenue Management, Director of Franchise Support Services, VP of Franchise Support Services and FOD. It is her extensive knowledge of the Brand, Franchise Operations, Revenue strategy, and key business partnerships she has developed over the years that will undoubtedly bring her great success as she now steps into the RRI West family.

With Daryl Fenner’s retirement announcement today, Julie will be taking the leadership reigns on August 16th for Region 4. Darryl has built a strong team, with many tenured GMs, and we know that the Region 4 leaders will be instrumental in helping Julie learn the RRI West way! When asked what she is most excited about coming into RRI West, Julie said “having the opportunity to share her knowledge and experience in improving the team’s results”.

Julie resides in Cottage Grove Wisconsin, a small town outside of Madison, with her husband Bryce and 13-year-old daughter, Gigi, who is an avid basketball and softball player. Not to be forgotten are Julie’s two four-legged children, Nika and Steve. If Julie had her way, she’d have at least 6 more furry family members… but unfortunately, Bryce put the limit at two!
